MANN+HUMMEL presents the LEARN project at FiltCon 2024

The LEARN project was presented by its partner MANN+HUMMEL at FiltCon 2024, a conference organised by the American Filtration & Separations Society (AFS) last April 8-10 in Houston, USA.

As the only technical filtration-related conference held in the US in 2024, the event gathered more than 200 attendees, mainly from industry and academia. During three days, FiltCon 2024 included three tracks in parallel and two sessions on air quality: the first one on exhaust & non-exhaust emissions, and the second one on indoor air quality and health.

As part of this second session, Martin Lehmann, Principal Expert Research Network and Public Funding at MANN+HUMMEL, gave a presentation in which he explained the scope of the LEARN project and focused on its Work Package 6 on Air Remediation. This work package, led by MANN+HUMMEL, aims to improve indoor air quality by optimising filtration and adsorption technology to remove particles and adsorb gases, covering from innovation on the microscale level (filter media) up to enhanced designs and added smart connectivity for air purifiers.

That second session on indoor air quality and health also included presentations on the efficacy of intense field dielectric (ifD) for indoor air purifier applications, the impact of the filter media selection on the cost of clean indoor air, and gaseous pollutants removal technologies for indoor air quality applications.

Moreover, Martin Lehmann gave another presentation at the first session on exhaust & non-exhaust emissions, this time about the EU-funded project Aersolfd, aimed at reducing brake emissions in urban environments, in which MANN+HUMMEL is also a partner.

Overall, the LEARN project presentation at FiltCon 2024 was fruitful in giving visibility to leading European research on indoor air quality in overseas areas.

The LEARN project is a Horizon Europe project meant to monitor and evaluate indoor air quality at schools around Europe and its impact on children’s health. Our main goal is to develop and deploy novel sensors that can detect possibly harmful air pollutants, as well as advanced biosensors and optimised air remediation strategies. Find out more about our EU-funded project!
