Researchers from the LEARN project’s coordinator, the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), and the LEARN partner AlveoliX, were present at EUROTOX 2025, the 59th Congress of the European Societies of Toxicology.
Held from September 14th to 17th in Athens, Greece, the congress was organised under the theme ‘Toxicology addresses society’s real life risks for sustainable health and well-being‘. Its programme focused on emerging technologies and methodologies in toxicology, together with discussions on public health safety and environmental sustainability.
During the event, the following two posters were exhibited with results related to the LEARN project:
- ‘Cytotoxic profile of indoor dust particles: acute, long-term repeated exposure and breathing-induced effects‘, studying the effect of acute and long-term repeated exposure to indoor dust on a lung-on-chip model with breathing motion ability.
- ‘Neurobehavioral and developmental effects of silica nanoparticles in C. elegans: A high-content screening approach‘, analysing the neurotoxic effects of silica nanoparticles, used in various industrial and biomedical sectors, by using a model based on the C. elegans nematode.

The LEARN project is a Horizon Europe project meant to monitor and evaluate indoor air quality at schools around Europe and its impact on children’s health. Our main goal is to develop and deploy novel sensors that can detect possibly harmful air pollutants, as well as advanced biosensors and optimised air remediation strategies.
