The LEARN project, part of the IDEAL cluster for indoor air quality and health in Europe

The IDEAL cluster, which celebrated its kick-off last October 2022, focuses on identifying the chemical and microbiological drivers contributing to indoor air pollution, identifying their main sources and assessing their health impacts.

This will help to map indoor environment pollution levels, sources, and health effects, and will facilitate establishing purposeful indoor air quality standards and prioritize the implementation of remediation measures.

Once standards are ready, solid public policies will be co-created to implement the changes, which will lead to a significant improvement in the health and quality of life of European citizens.

The 7 working groups of the IDEAL cluster

The IDEAL cluster aims to raise awareness about EU-funded projects addressing public health and healthy indoor environments, maximising the spread of their results at the institutional and academic levels, and influencing key stakeholders for Horizon Europe research.

To achieve its goals, the IDEAL cluster has created the following seven working groups:

The LEARN project is the leader of Working Group 7 on In-vitro models, and co-leads Working Group 3 on Communication and Dissemination, together with InChildHealth. Moreover, LEARN pays its contributions to other working groups of the cluster.

7 projects involving over 120 organisations and €50M in funding

The IDEAL cluster involves over 120 European organisations across 7 EU-funded projects, funded by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) under Horizon Europe’s topic for ‘Indoor Air Quality and Health’. Overall, the funding for these projects amounts to 50 million euros.

The LEARN project is a Horizon Europe project meant to monitor and evaluate indoor air quality at schools around Europe and its impact on children’s health. Our main goal is to develop and deploy novel sensors that can detect possibly harmful air pollutants, as well as advanced biosensors and optimised air remediation strategies. Find out more about our EU-funded project!
